Aerobics – What it is.

Aerobics are form of exercise that increases the volume and use of oxygen within the body through physically active movements that rhythmic. With the help of an individual and/ or equipment, aerobic exercise perfects the function of movement by the muscles and joints.

Aerobic exercise can be performed as an individual exercise, but this is not recommended since research has shown that the best results come from a group performance effort. Therefore, that is why aerobic exercise classes work so well. Normally music is played in an aerobic session while a trained professional leads the group to activity and ensures fluidity as a group.

The persons involved in an aerobics class are required to perform various physical actions that are smooth and resemble a dance. Aerobic classes are normally separated by levels of similar ability of the exercise and their ability to get through the program. This provides the best work out for individuals at different stages of aerobic exercise. Many gyms offer times slots for aerobic classes of varying levels from beginners to advanced. Each class takes into consideration the abilities and experience at aerobic or similar exercise and is placed with the correct group and trainer that will be the optimal work out and stage for the person.

The benefits that result from aerobic exercise are truly excellent. A person’s body will evolve as physically fit and will be so much healthier no matter what other exercises have been done. From being a healthy and fit individual, person can gain the benefits associated with that to great measures, even as much as to prevent or reduce the risks of certain medical conditions.

Aerobic Exercise as a Sport.

Known as either aerobic gymnastics, sport aerobics or competitive aerobics, aerobic exercise is on a whole new level in the competitive sports arena. Aerobic gymnastics involve a an advanced level of difficult movements performed with perfection. These perfect movements are complicated, and intense activities that are placed in sync with music. This aerobic sport is all based on the classroom aerobics, but taken to a new level of performance.

Competitive aerobics puts together several aspects and joins them together seamlessly. These are aerobics, sports aerobics, dance movements, choreography of the performance to coordinate the activities withe the music played.

So that the aerobic competitions are fair to all who participate, the performances are broken down into categories. The categories are done by age, gender, individual, partners, groups or the abilities of the group as a whole.

As with any other type of competition, there is judging to determine the best performance. Judging involves a fair assessment of several parts of the performance such as jumps, kicks, leaps, balance, flexibility and the strength shown while still or while in motion. In the aerobic performance there are three required actions that must take place: four high leg kicks in succession, four push-ups in succession and a chosen program. The program should start with four jumping jacks in succession followed by thirty-two forms of standing movements and patterns. Performers can choose up to ten approaches such as push-ups, kicks, splits, supports, jumps, leaps or balances. There are a few routines that are not permitted however, and these are handstands, tumbling, aerial somersaults, handsprings or back flips.

Artistic content in the performance, the technical aspect of the performance including both the difficulty and overall excellence, as well as creativity in the performance are all the considerations that a judge takes into account. Although it is not yet secured as an Olympic sport, aerobics as a sport is recognized at state, national and international levels.
