How to Lose Weight and Keep It Off

First you should never use a crash diet in order to lose weight. If you lose weight too rapidly than your body loses glycogen which is a carbohydrate and water weight rather than fat. Your body will think it is starving and as a result it reduces its metabolic rate. This means your body will have a harder time burning calories. Once you start eating normally again your body will store as much fat as possible in case it faces this starving situation again.

The best weight loss plan will focus on substituting food rather than eliminating them. While many people may feel that diet or reduced fat foods aren’t as good as the real thing they can be a much better option than fatty foods. Take the time to try a few reduced fat brands and items; you may be surprised with what you taste. It is important that your weight loss plan include sustainable changes. So if you can’t live without a particular food try to find a healthier substitute rather than eliminating it entirely since this will help you stay on track with your weight loss plans.

Third consider the drinks in your diet. Many people don’t give thought to what they drink when they are dieting. However, just cutting soda from your diet can help you reduce your daily intake by at least 360 calories or more. Even diet sodas, fruit juices and whole milk can add a number of unnecessary calories to your diet each day. Rather, while on your diet it is a good idea to drink a lot of water and switch to skim or even soy milk. These little differences will have big impacts on your diet.

Fourth any weight loss plan needs to include exercise. The amount of exercise you do will reduce how much food you need to cut back on. However, being athletic isn’t the only way to get exercise. Just walk to school; bike to work or take a walk around the blow can give you the exercise you need to improve your weight loss plan.

The best way to lose weight is by making gradual changes. There are many diet programs which will allow this. If you make small changes they will be easier to deal with than drastic changes. For example you could start by not eating everything on your plate or drinking water instead of soda. Small changes like this are more likely to remain after you finish your diet.

Lastly, you should avoid overeating. Once you are full or satisfied then just stop eating. You don’t have to keep eating until you are uncomfortable. Also remember that nutrients take awhile to enter your bloodstream and circulate to your brain in order to register that you are full. To help with this you should eat slower and allow your body to have the chance to recognize that you are full and don’t need to eat anymore food. This can make it easier to avoid overeating.
