First you need to take it easy for about two to three months after giving birth. At this time you can start some vigorous exercises along with a healthy low fat diet. However, don’t go with a fast weight loss plan unless you talk with your health professional first. The best goal for after pregnancy is to lose one pound per week and place your focus on eating a nutritious diet and getting daily exercise, which shouldn’t be too hard with a baby in the house.

How long weight loss takes before your regain your shape after pregnancy depends on how much weight you gained during your pregnancy. Most women gain an average of 25 to 35 pounds during pregnancy. At birth about 12 to 14 pounds is lost which typically leaves you with 12 to 21 pounds of weight to lose. You can easily lose this amount of weight in six to eight months after your three months of recovery. The following are some tips that can help you lose weight faster after pregnancy.

Fist you want to breast feed your baby. During pregnancy a woman gains weight largely to help store the caloric energy your body requires in order to breast feed a baby. This adds up to 200 to 500 extra calories a day. When you breast feed your baby you produce about 850ml of breast milk a day. So while following a weight loss plan that your doctor suggests you should also use this natural way to get rid of calories.

Second you need to focus on daily exercise. You should start exercising immediately after you come home. However, don’t start out with vigorous exercises. Instead you want to start with easy and gentle exercises like walking, swimming or yoga. Talk with your doctor in order to understand the benefits of exercise and to choose a physical form of exercise which can help you lose weight while not interfering with breastfeeding. Your doctor is best able to advise you on an exercise program that will help you, but it is your job to stick with the plan. In this respect it can be a good idea to get help and support from your spouse, mother or a close friend. With help you are more likely to stick with the plan and lose weight. By doing these two things you can have fast weight loss success after pregnancy.

  1. I totally agree! I like that you tell readers to take it easy for the first few months after having a baby. I also like that you go with a natural weight loss regimin and not that of diet pills. It’s good to see tips for the breast feeders too.
