Eating is the basic necessity for any living-being. There are plenty of things that one can eat any time, but good eating habits should be developed to remain healthy and fit. Unusual eating habits and wrong beliefs about body weight or shape may lead to serious types of eating disorders. There are three major eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge or over eating disorder. Obesity is characterized as general medical condition and not as eating disorder as it is not continuously linked with psychological or behavioral problems.
Anorexia nervosa is featured by the denial to maintain the minimal normal body weight having the severe doubt of becoming fat and in case of female, amenorrhea for at least 3 months. The most of the cases of anorexia nervosa are categorized as restricting type; such persons attain abnormally low weight by intensive dieting, fasting and sometimes by exercising impulsively. In the intense cases, the patients deny to eat and literally die of starvation.
Bulimia nervosa is featured by persistent episodes of over eating, the standard use of excessive weight compensatory methods and dysfunctional attitudes regarding body weight and shape that excessively manipulate self-assessment or self-esteem.
Bing or over eating disorder is featured by frequent episodes of over eating but, no excessive weight control behaviors are present. The persons having over eating disorders have disorganized eating styles and often overdo as well as overindulge.
