Daily Calorie Requirements- Do you know what yours is?

A calorie is a unit of measurement for energy. This term has been around since 1824 when Nicolas Clement first defined it. For many women, calories rule their life.  However, only 17 percent of women can accurately estimate how many calories their bodies need each day according to a survey by the International Food Information Council.  Are you one of those women?  A baseline daily calorie requirement depends on your height, weight, and activity level.  Figuring out your daily calorie requirement is crucial in the process of losing weight. Most people try to eat under a certain amount of calories per day in order to lose weight. A 1500 calorie diet is very common among people who are attempting to lose weight.

The first step is to calculate how many calories you need daily to maintain your current weight. There are many tools online that you can utilize to count calories and figure out your baseline daily calorie requirements.  One can be found on the glamour magazine site.  If you just do a search, you will find many online. Once you pick one, you need to input all of your info that it asks for.  You should be as truthful as possible in order to get a true daily calorie requirement report.  Then you should keep a food diary for a week. By this I mean, you should write down everything you consume for a week to get an accurate count of how many calories you are actually consuming.

Sometimes this number surprises people.  Once you calculate your daily calorie requirements and how many calories you are actually consuming on average, you can figure out how many calories you need to cut down to lose weight. If you don’t want to lose weight, then you are finished.  One pound is approximately equal to 3500 calories.  Most tools say to cut out 500 calories a day to lose weight. You can either cut out food; increase your exercise routine, or both to decrease your daily calories.  Either way, you will have a new daily calorie requirement for your weight loss plan. If you would like to gain some weight, then you should do the opposite.  Your daily calorie requirements will increase instead of decrease.  There is always the possibility that a person is eating too few calories also. That is another reason a person should calculate their daily calorie requirements. If your body goes into starvation mode, it will hoard all calories that it intakes.  This is another reason each person who is concerned with their health and weight should calculate their daily calorie requirement.

Either way you want to go, your daily calorie requirements will change.  Knowing this number can be very beneficial to any person. The number of calories you intake daily can effect your entire body. If you consume too many calories, then you will gain weight and feel uncomfortable in your own body. If you want to lose weight, then you must take in less than you can burn off.   Calculating your daily calorie requirements is an overall healthy thing to do for every person.
