Fat Cell Number

The number of fat cells in the body usually does not worry people. The average person cannot tell you the number of fat cells in her or her body and if they can increase or decrease. Most people are instead concerned with losing fat, or to put it more accurately, they are more concerned with losing weight. The bad news is that there is no way to decrease the number of fat cells in the body through exercise. There is a way to decrease the number of fat cells, but this involves painful and expensive plastic surgery. (Liposuction is the only procedure the will remove fact cells.)

While it may be depressing news that the number of fat cells cannot be decreased in the body except through expensive surgical procedures, even worse news is that the body will add fat cells as needed and it will never remove them. This is an old survival mechanism – the body simply takes the fat out of the cells during times of famine, or for most of us today, when we start a diet and our energy needs start to exceed our caloric intake.

Blocking the absorption of fat or increasing leaner meats will not prevent the body from adding to the number of fat cells you have, as that is not how it works. If take in more fat food than you need to eat and your fat cells are all full, your body will create new fat cells so it can store the energy until a time when it is needed. When you start exercising, decrease the amount you eat or do both in combination, the fat cells do not die if no fat is stored in them, the body simply removes the fat it has stored in the cells. It is a simple process and the explanation took far longer than it will take to grasp it for most people.

But on the best strategy is not worry about the number of fat cells in your body. It is probably higher than you can count, but instead to focus on what your body mass index is. For men, the BMI should be no higher than 15 percent fat and for women, 25% of fat is the recommended amount. If you are under, it is probably best to increase your activity level and start to lose fat. If you want to spend your money on gimmicks and appetite suppressants to help this process, you can do so, but it is not really necessary.

The best weight loss strategy at least in a broad sense will always be to eat less and exercise more. Which exercise is the best for you depend on your age, activity level, gender, and which exercises you are comfortable with doing? Once all this has been decided, you can then move on to picking out the exercise routine that will work best for you. Then just remember to take the time out to do it every single day – or at least every single day required.
