Body Fat Composition

The phrase body composition may not mean much to you at this moment, but I assuming since you have started reading this article, you are interested in figuring out what exactly is meant by it if you do not know already, or at least the various scales by which body composition is measured, especially those scales that let you know what your ideal weight is.

To determine whether a person is overweight or not is simple to step on a weight scale. Doctors have comprised a variety of charts that let a person know if he has reached his ideal weight or not. The problem with such charts is that these rely on averages. Most people do not fall neatly into these averages and many people who were otherwise healthy may have been convinced of the necessity of losing weight, when they were the right size and weight for their body type. So the BMI lets a person know if he has the right height, weight, and fat percentage for the body that he has.

Now the problem with the ideal weight for your height has been mentioned, what has not been mentioned at least so far is the solution that came up with it, that included your overall body composition. Height, frame, weight, and gender were all taken into account as well as how much fat should be on your body. The overall body composition went into figuring out a new figure called the body mass index. This will also tell you if you have too much or too little fat on your body. (The latter is likely not a problem for people living in well developed worlds.)

While it may not be likely that most of the readers will need this information, a body composition of less than 5% fat is dangerous for the health of a person. The high ends depends on the gender of the person taking the measurements – men should not have more than fifteen percent body fat and women should have no more than 20-25% as women have slightly more fat on average than men or at least should.

When a person exceeds these limits, it is time for him or her to make dietary and lifestyle changes in order to lose weight. Bringing your body composition down to the recommended fat percentage often is hard work, but the most effective way to lose fat is to become more active or eat less. (Both in combination is even more effective.) When you lose the fat and the weight (assuming that your problem was not having too low of a body fat composition) you will reap the benefits of better looks and better energy, and because I've been told that sex sells, you may also attract that special certain someone. I can't guarantee the latter though. Then again, you never know, so it may very well be worth a try. Well, even if you do not find Mister or Misses right, you will at least reap the health benefits of an improved activity level.
