Causes Of Obesity In Young Children

Currently, statistics show that the national considers one in every five kids obese standard. This figure has doubled within the past thirty years, and seems to be on a steady rise. Obesity is a huge health problem in our society today, for kids and teens as well as adults. The good news is that by understanding the causes of obesity in children today, we can go a long ways in preventing this condition in the future.

Following are some common causes of obesity in young children, as well as some treatments and preventions.

Education

Information is the most influential weapon you can have against a disorder such as obesity and that can be passed on to your child on a daily basis. Many adults put on weight and get to be obese because they simply don’t know simple facts, like how many calories one should consume in a day, what is the ideal weight in relevance to your height, how to prepare a balanced diet and when to eat what types of foods. So these people should refer to child obesity charts. A child obesity chart is a chart of weight, height of the child as per his developmental stages. Every 4-6 months, these measurements are taken by the doctor and recorded in the chart. Then the chart is studied so as to make sure if the weight of the child is in proportion with the height.

As a parent, it is very important you know all the factors about nutrition first and foremost for your own health and secondly in order to be able to look after your child and, more importantly, so that you can teach your child about it. It is also important to get regular physical activity if you want to maintain a healthy weight.

The Importance Of Physical Activities

Regular exercise is another important factor in reversing the numbers in the current child obesity graphs. Encourage your kids to play outdoor games like cricket, basketball, football etc. Discourage them from playing computer games, television etc. There should be timetable for children to watch television and computer games. They should be made compulsory to go out and play outdoor games. Also they should do regular exercise and keep themselves active and fit. Parents should keep a watch on their children to make sure all these things are strictly followed. If it is not strictly followed, then it can affect the physical status of the child and make him more lazy and inactive.

Few tips

Obesity in young children usually occurs due to parent’s negligence and lack of knowledge in the right nutrition and exercises required for their child. Speak to your doctor and find out the ideal weight for your child depending on his height and age as well as what types of foods are nutritious and what exercises are best applicable at what time of the day.

There has to be a check on excessive drinking of alcohol. Also junk food from outside has to be avoided as it has very high oily content. People should also reduce eating meat as it has high cholesterol content. So if people maintain a good diet having a nutrition value and involve in a moderate exercise, obesity problems can be avoided.

Parents should take regular checkups on their children measuring their height and weight. If any distortions are found in the results, it should be taken seriously and appropriate measures should be taken. Children should be encouraged to join gyms and to do exercise at least 4 times a week.

Summary: So to sum it up, periodic checkups, regular exercise and a good nutritional diet all are important to keep a check on child obesity. If children and parents follow appropriate measures, child obesity can be cured as well as prevented.
