The Perspectives of Doctors on Child ObesityMost doctors in the United States will agree that obesity has become a crisis of epidemic proportions among the youth of this country. The national standard can consider twenty percent of children obese standard, and more are categorized as overweight. Obesity is defined as being in the 95th percent in body mass index (BMI), and a child is considered overweight if he is in the 85th percent of BMI. Problems caused due to obesity are cardiovascular diseases caused due to accumulation of fat in arteries. The accumulation of fat proves to be a block for blood circulation and heart has to pump blood with a greater force, which increases the risk of heart attack. Moderate exercise can also make you active and reduces risk of heart diseases Also a rise in a diabetes is shown by the child obesity graphs which is a very frightening fact/ Also children suffer from wear and tear of joints and bones due to their excess weight. These childhood problems can only lead to greater and more serious health issues in adulthood, it obesity is not addressed soon in regards to kids. Doctors comment a lot on child obesity because this condition is increasing so much , and because of the health concerns related to it. First, treatment of obesity is much more complicated than preventing the condition in the first place. When it comes to most doctors’ thoughts on child obesity, the preventative methods that they would like to see implemented include healthy choices in the daily diet and regular physical activity. Both of these factors have suffered significantly in recent years for a variety of reasons, which is why many doctors believe that child obesity is on the rise at such an exorbitant rate. Television and computer is major culprit for lack of physical exercise. Doctor’s comments on Child Obesity, Diet and ExerciseThe dietary habits in this country have deteriorated considerably with the introduction of junk food into our daily menus. All children enjoy junk food snacks like pizza, popcorn, burgers simply because they are tasty and they should not be deprived from them, however, what parents often don’t realize is that it can easily replace a nutritious meal and that can cause damage to your child’s health in the long run. Hence parents should keep a control on their children and give them junk food only on special occasions. Normally, children should be given home cooked meal, which is high on nutritional value. Exercise is another important factor in fighting the child obesity trend. Between the television, computers and video games, there are plenty of inactive activities that attract our kids’ attention today. Encourage kids to play outdoor games like cricket, basketball, football etc. Discourage them from playing computer games, television etc. There should be timetable for children to watch television and computer games. They should be made compulsory to go out and play outdoor games. Also they should do regular exercise and keep themselves active and fit. After playing these outdoor games and doing regular exercise, children can burn out their extra calories and remain fit and healthy. Summary: Child obesity is a crisis in this country, but it is not a problem without a solution. When it comes to child obesity, doctors have plenty of healthy recommendations for parents that will ensure that their kids stay slim and trim. But parents should make sure that they lead by example instead of forcing their kids to do regular exercise. If parents have good eating habits kids will follow them also. |
