Child Obesity Graphs warns us of Future Problems

If you see the child obesity graphs in recently, obesity is on the rise among children and teens along with adults. This is an alarming statistic when you consider that obesity can lead to other serious health issues like high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes. Problems caused due to obesity are cardiovascular diseases caused due to accumulation of fat in arteries.  The accumulation of fat proves to be a block for blood circulation and heart has to pump blood with a greater force, which increases the risk of heart attack. Moderate exercise can also make you active and reduces risk of heart diseases Also a rise in a diabetes is shown by the child obesity graphs which is a very frightening fact/ Also children suffer from wear and tear of joints and bones due to their excess weight. These childhood problems can only lead to greater and more serious health issues in adulthood, it obesity is not addressed soon in regards to kids.

The graphs that show the number of occasions of this condition in this age group will show a gradual increase in numbers of cases of obesity every year. if you consider that the percentage of obese children and teens have doubled in the past thirty years, you will have a good idea of the hazardous trend that our country is going through. However, approximately 70% of all diabetes cases can be credited to a weight issue and that 70% of overweight kids will grow into overweight and obese adults. Hence healthcare professionals are concerned a lot for these problems.

Things to learn from the child obesity graphs

Parents must do something to reverse the trend of these child obesity graphs. First, kids must learn to eat a diet that is low in fat and high in nutrients Parents should take regular checkups on their children measuring their height and weight. If any distortions are found in the results, it should be taken seriously and appropriate measures should be taken. Children should be encouraged to join gyms and to do exercise at least 4 times a week.. The food pyramid that has been developed by the United States Department of Agriculture is a good place to begin good eating habits. Do not eat fast food and junk food, and substitute healthy choices like fruits, vegetables, low fat dairy products and whole grain items. You should set an example to your kids of what healthy eating looks like, by selecting an apple over a brownie and carrot sticks instead of the cookies. Your kids will learn to eat right by watching you. If you have bad eating habits, your children will also follow your bad habits. If you have good eating habits, your children will also follow your good habits. So unless you change yourselves, to expect your children to change is not right.

Regular exercise is another important factor in reversing the numbers in the current child obesity graphs. Encourage your kids to play outdoor games like cricket, basketball, football etc. Discourage them from playing computer games, television etc. There should be timetable for children to watch television and computer games. They should be made compulsory to go out and play outdoor games. Also they should do regular exercise and keep themselves active and fit. Parents should keep a watch on their children to make sure all these things are strictly followed. If it is not strictly followed, then it can affect the physical status of the child and make him more lazy and inactive.

Summary:  If you have bad eating habits, your children will also follow your bad habits. If you have good eating habits, your children will also follow your good habits. So unless you change yourselves, to expect your children to change is not right.
