Lets Fight Obesity: health issues of obese children

Obesity is caused because of over consumption of calories and not able to burn them. Over consumption is caused by over eating and calories are not burnt because of lack of exercise. Someone who has more that 95 % of the body mass index can be termed as obese. This definition is used for both adults and children, and the percentage of kids who meet these criteria is high as 20 % in recent years. When you consider the health implications of childhood obesity that include diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure, it is easy to see why doctors are so worried over the rise in these numbers. This is why it is so important to uproot this problem from the bud. Obesity needs to be controlled now otherwise our younger generations would face lots of problems in their future life. So prevention is always better than cure.

Diabetes in the Kids

Diabetes is caused due to deficiency of insulin. Obese people has large body hence body cannot produce insulin in proportion to their body mass. Hence overweight people have higher risk of contradicting diabetes. Type 2 diabetes can cause problems later in life that affect the eyes, kidneys, circulatory system, and the body’s ability to fight infection. The fact that so many kids are being diagnosed with this disease early in life is a fearsome trend indeed. A child can control the bad effects of this disease by controlling his weight but the problem is that it is not very simple to lose weight. Gaining weight is very easy but losing weight is very difficult.

Other Health Issues

Also a rise in diabetes is shown by the child obesity graphs, which is a very frightening fact. Also children suffer from wear and tear of joints and bones due to their excess weight. These childhood problems can only lead to greater and more serious health issues in adulthood, it obesity is not addressed soon in regards to kids.

As a result of the increase in obesity in children, doctors are also seeing more and more kids with cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure. Problems caused due to obesity are cardiovascular diseases caused due to accumulation of fat in arteries.  The accumulation of fat proves to be a block for blood circulation and heart has to pump blood with a greater force, which increases the risk of heart attack. These are other health issues that were rarely seen in children until the incidence of obesity became so much higher. Sleep apnea is a very serious problem, which is defined as breathing interruptions during sleep. This health issue in obese children primarily can cause loss of memory and ability to learn. Some of these health issues may not arise in children, but can be diagnosed in adulthood if precautions are not taken in childhood. Hence we should take serious concern of the grave consequences of child obesity. If we learn to fight child obesity, we can get rid of disease caused through child obesity as well. This makes obesity in children a grave concern for doctors and parents.

Summary: Child obesity is a crisis in this country, but it is not a problem without a solution. When it comes to child obesity, doctors have plenty of healthy recommendations for parents that will ensure that their kids stay slim and trim.
