Health Concerns for Obese Overweight Children

The number of obese and overweight children in the United States and other parts of the world is growing at a very frightening rate. Children today spend more time in front of their computers and television and less time engaging in physical activities, while their parents have no time to prepare healthy home-cooked meals daily. As a result, more and more children are becoming overweight and obese.

This is a alarming statistic when you consider that obesity can lead to other serious health issues like high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes. Problems caused due to obesity are cardiovascular diseases caused due to accumulation of fat in arteries.  The accumulation of fat proves to be a block for blood circulation and heart has to pump blood with a greater force, which increases the risk of heart attack. These childhood problems can only lead to greater and more serious health issues in adulthood, it obesity is not addressed soon in regards to kids.

Helping overweight and obese children involves changing eating habits and lifestyle. It is important to provide children with nutritional dietary plans and allow them to engage in physical activities, such as sports, in order to live a healthy life.

If you’re worried of your overweight or obese children, make an appointment with your child’s pediatrician or doctor. This way, your health care provider can give your child a healthy eating program and activity routine that may help in losing unhealthy weight. Your health care provider may also undergo some tests to check if your child is at risk or experiencing weight-related health problems.

Children who are obese and who develop complications due to that obesity for their entire life require extensive medical care.  As they grow old, the seriousness of their health issues can cause their education to be affected due to lack of attendance in school, lack of concentration and decreased ability to learn.

Summary: This, in turn, will affect the ability for these children to be employable as they reach adulthood.  Between the major medical costs that obesity incurs, and the probable need for these people to be cared for by society, the costs become exorbitant.  Also obese people find it very difficult to get jobs, as employers prefer active and healthy people.
