Let Us Discuss About Obese Children Watching T.V.

Obesity and children has been the growing concern among parents, pediatricians and other health care providers because more and more children are becoming overweight and on the way to obesity at an early age. As a result, health problems that adults usually suffer from – such as hypertension, diabetes and high cholesterol – are now being diagnosed to children.

Restrict watching TV

Parents should restrict television-viewing time of their children. Because the television set is very addictive, it is the favorite pastime of the children. So television contributes to the sedentary lifestyle of children.

Eating high calorie food can be a major cause for obesity. All consuming food all the time when they are not hungry can be an example of bad eating patterns. This factor is definitely curable as if you can improve your eating habits, you can eliminate the possibility of obesity.

Second reason is lack of physical activities. Some children do not play outdoor games but restrict themselves to indoors all the time. So if there is no physical exercise, whatever they eat the calories are not burnt. Hence the fat gets accumulated. Television and computers are the two major reasons, which attract children and prevent them from going outside for a walk.

Watching television also increases the stress for children. Stress can also be an influencing factor for obesity. Some people tend to overeat because of tension. Stress comes because of family problems, financial problems, medical problems etc.

Obese children and watching TV also comes into play when you look historically at TV in general. In the past, when not many people had TV, there was less of an issue of children being overweight because more children were getting outside to run and play and fewer children were getting into a lot of TV watching. It is found that now that more and more children watch TV on a regular basis, there is much concern and alarm when it comes to obese children and watching TV.

Since television has so many channels, kids get attracted to it. Mostly programmes like cartoon network are favorites for children hence they do not go for sports and other physical exercise. Encourage your kids to play outdoor games like cricket, basketball, football etc. Discourage them from playing computer games, television etc. There should be timetable for children to watch television and computer games. They should be made compulsory to go out and play outdoor games. Also they should do regular exercise and keep themselves active and fit. Parents should keep a watch on their children to make sure all these things are strictly followed. If it is not strictly followed, then it can affect the physical status of the child and make him more lazy and inactive.

Summary: The importance on standardized test scores means that the schools have to reduce the time that children go out to play.  Recess time and play time after lunch has been cut considerably because the schools feel the pressure to increase the averages on the standardized tests. Parents should keep a watch on their children to make sure all these things are strictly followed. If it is not strictly followed, then it can affect the physical status of the child and make him more lazy and inactive.
