World Statistics on Obesity in Children

Obesity has been a noteworthy health issue for so many years.  Most chronic adult health problems are increased by obesity.  There are so many emphases on the Weight loss programs, which have increased, a lot in American society, and workout gyms are available in almost every city in the nation. The world statistics show that there are more than 5 million obese children in the world. These figures gradually increase, as children get older, and have been seen in areas like Africa, the Middle East, the Caribbean and South America. Even regions that are dealing with malnutrition throughout much of their populations are also seeing an increase in obesity and health problems related to it.

The world statistics on obesity in children have become noteworthy enough that the World Health Organization (WHO) has become actively involved in researching and finding ways to treat and prevent the condition. A task force called the International Obesity Task Force has been formed to study the propositions of these world statistics on obesity in children around the world, to determine the best methods for controlling this issue. 300 million people worldwide are considered obese, and 750 million are overweight as per findings from this organization. These numbers quote a grave health problem, when one considers that obesity can contribute to arthritis issues, high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes. Now, young children are being diagnosed with what was formerly considered adult onset diabetes where the body is unable to produce enough insulin in comparison to the body size and diet consumed.

Diabetes is a grave health issue, but also has many complications, which are dangerous to life.  Problems caused due to obesity are cardiovascular diseases caused due to accumulation of fat in arteries.  The accumulation of fat proves to be a block for blood circulation and heart has to pump blood with a greater force, which increases the risk of heart attack.

A child suffering from obesity has problems in mobility.  Their lives are very painful because of the excess weight that they carry around constantly.  People always make jokes on them because of their weight problems.  Some of them have great difficulty making friends and relating to the other children in their schools. These children often suffer from low self-esteem. As a result these children are isolated and develop severe depression.

What can be done to reverse the World Statistics on Obesity in Children?

Educating people about the negative consequences of obesity is the best way to reduce the cases of child obesity in the world. Junk food is a major reason that is attributed to the rise in obesity. Controlling public intake of unhealthy foods is a problem that involves marketers and manufacturers as well as parents, educators, and health care professionals. The entire attitude of the population must be changed in regards to unhealthy eating, and should also incorporate the need for daily exercise. By changing attitude of people to consider a healthier lifestyle, the world statistics on obesity in children can slowly but surely be reversed. The first thing that adults need to do is to take measures for achieving weight control.

Summary:  Adults providing good examples of healthy lifestyles can be the best way for children to learn. If you have bad eating habits, your children will also follow your bad habits. If you have good eating habits, your children will also follow your good habits. So unless you change yourselves, to expect your children to change is not right.
