Detox diet plans - to help you get rid of toxins

The term detox is actually a short form for detoxification, which is exactly what these plans do. Detoxification is a general process in which the body gets rid of harmful toxic substances. The term is frequently used to refer to treatment of problems related to drugs or alcohol. When applied to food, it refers to ridding the body of harmful substances that have accumulated in the body as a result of poor eating habits. Also, see: 25 ways to detox your body.

Toxins or substances that can cause harm to body tissues are generated from various sources, some of which are natural. The body identifies and neutralizes these substances and eliminates them through urine and excreta. Many unnatural toxins caused by environmental and artificial sources may need to be treated with herbs or diets.

Detox diets prevent harmful chemicals from entering the body by choosing the right type of food, or help the body to eliminate the toxins by providing them with the necessary nutrients to set the detoxification process in motion by the body itself. These diets also help the body to rid of the toxins by increasing the bowel movement.

The toxic substances that get injected into our body may sometimes become excessive, and the body’s own mechanism may fail to get rid of them. In such cases, the affected person is likely to experience fatigue and pain. The condition of the skin is also usually affected. A detox diet can cure these conditions by removing the toxic substances that have accumulated in the body. After detoxification, the concerned person is likely to feel more energetic and healthy, have regular bowel movements, clearer and healthier skin, and improved digestion.

The need for detoxification can be established through regular tests. Similarly, the improvements that the person has can be measured through laboratory tests. However, such tests are yet to become widely accepted.

Detox diets may have some side effects such as headaches that result from the sudden withdrawal of stimulants such as caffeine. Moreover, it should not be resorted to by people who suffer from any medical condition or abnormality. Pregnant women and lactating mothers as well as children should not use detox diets. People suffering from heart diseases, diabetes, kidney and liver disorders, epilepsy, ulcers and cancer should also avoid such diets unless recommended by their doctors. Similarly weak persons such as those suffering from anemia or low blood pressure or those who are underweight should avoid detox diets. Drug addicts and alcoholics should also avoid these diets. In general it is better to get the advice of your doctor before taking up such a diet, particularly if you are in doubt.

Detox diets may be accompanied by other methods such as breathing exercises or other types of exercises. These diets are usually taken once or twice in a year. Once the diet period is over the concerned person is allowed to return to normal food gradually, although consumption of healthy food at all times is definitely recommended.

Detox diets are a good way to rid the body of toxins. Before embarking on such a program, it is better that you consult a doctor, as detox diets should be avoided by persons suffering from a number of medical conditions.
