Low Cholesterol Diets

Almost always the diet is a main aspect when it comes to cholesterol problems. Cholesterol could be caused due to two reasons. One could be diet and the other could be hereditary. Maintaining a good diet is the most important thing when one has improper cholesterol levels, and so seeking the help of a professional is a wise idea.

The doctor will make a good diet plan, and will also ensure that it is followed. Cholesterol can naturally be related to high fat. It could be saturated or unsaturated. Most foods that are fatty will contain both the types of fat. Among all foods fat contains the maximum amount of calories, and too much of this will lead to high levels of cholesterol in the body.

The amount of calories consumed every day will also play a role in maintaining the levels of cholesterol. The diet has to be planned in such a way, that only a certain amount of calories are being consumed every day. It is good to balance the diet with a lot of fiber, and also complex carbohydrates. Saturated fat especially has to be avoided.

Fat will lead to the accumulation of weight, and weight will increase cholesterol levels. The sodium intake in the food must also be controlled. Two main things that one will have to avoid are sugar and alcohol. Both these items cause the calorie content to go up, and also this would lead to excess body weight. And body weight again leads to cholesterol levels.

Fish oils are a great help, and must be a compulsory part of the diet. The fish contains omega three fatty acid, and this will help lower cholesterol levels in the body. Deep sea fish like herring and salmon are ideal in a diet. However fish oil supplements must not be taken with the diet, as they contain too many calories and will add to body weight.

Sodium content will mean salt, and so if one likes salts, then they can replace it with certain herbs as well as spices. Whole grains, pastas come under complex carbohydrates. Commercial products must be avoided as much as possible. There should also be fiber in the diet. And for this the oats, barley, brown rice and carrots are ideal.

Meat plays a very important place in cholesterol levels. The type of meat eaten should be very choosy. One must make sure that the meat has less fat, as meat can be packed in various ways. Red meat should be avoided as much as possible, and can be included in the diet once a while. Chicken and fish can be consumed more often, but the portions should be monitored.

Fast foods must certainly be avoided, as they have high sodium and fat content. As with most disorders, drinking a lot of water as well as fresh fruit juices is a good idea. Most of the time the cause of the cholesterol level, is the consumption of fat, so this must be avoided.
