TROUBLE LOSING WEIGHT

This is one of the key points confronting people trying to reduce their weight to the optimal levels.  The will is there.  To paraphrase with due apologies to the original writer “The flesh is there, but the spirit is weak”.

Most people who undertake weight loss programs often succumb to temptation, to go back to the status quo. This is natural. After years of indulging in your own whims and fancies, you are suddenly confronted with having to modify or even change your lifestyle. Change is seldom easy. It is easier to say “yes” when you really want to say “no”. Right?

To accept change takes time, lots of time sometimes. Try and vary your routine, and you find yourself feeling strange and, without exaggeration, a feeling of loss or something amiss.  Think about this.

Change is a challenge. You have to think about it in a forceful manner, focusing only on what you NOW want to do, and rejecting everything else. Dieting does not happen overnight. It’s not possible, unless you are a persona with strong will power. But most of us don’t have that same strong will.

Temptation stares you in the face when you open the fridge. Those lovely cakes, puddings, and desserts are like the devil enticing you. The devil is in your brain. So what do you do? Take those tempting articles and put them somewhere, difficult for you to reach for. Keep those new dietary foods or snacks in front. Stare at them, and EAT them.  A long journey starts with a single step, said somebody.

Think of your dieting and weight control program as one. It does not matter how many months you will take. But you have to be bold, and hold on. Have you slipped today? No problem. Tell yourself you won’t do it again. Tell your family about it. Tell them to point fingers at you when you reach for that favorite which is now a “no-no”. When you first start say walking around the block or in the park, expect stares from people who are already there. Some may be friends, join them. Most people would wish you. Return the same. That adds to your positive thoughts. Don’t be negative in your approach. Paste it on your Fridge door “I WILL NOT DO XX, YY,ZZ,” The XXs are the things you have to avoid it. Read it before you open. That’s a positive step towards reconditioning your mind. Ten times ten you will slowly change.

Most people would comment. Let them. Who are you doing this for? for them? or For their approval? No. It’s for you and yourself only. Yes it is selfish. After all, you have to suffer, not them. They will call on you, send cards or flowers. Do you really need that? No.
Give yourself a time plan, with inputs from your physician. If you feel the urge, call whom you really are friendly with and talk about it. Don’t hesitate. Take help.
