Weighing food

Weighing food is one way that you can facilitate weight loss.  Weighing food does not mean actually putting it on a scale, but weighing the calories and carbohydrates that are contained in the food.

When you are trying to lose weight by a diet, it is important to watch your calories first.  We all need a certain amount of calories each day, to survive.  Our daily recommended calorie intake depends upon our gender, height, body type, age and activity level.  If we lead a rather active life, for example, we need more calories than if we spend all day sitting at a desk.

Take a look on the internet for calorie counters.  These will tell you how many calories you should consume based upon the above specifications.  If you eat less than this recommended amount of calories, then you will begin to lose weight.

Weighing food consists of counting the amount of calories that are in each item that you consume each day.  This includes drinks.  Many people do not realize that drinks can add pounds without the consumer even realizing it.  The biggest culprits are soft drinks that are usually loaded with sugar that quickly turns to fat.

Foods that should be “weighed” include those that are high in calories, carbohydrates, and fats.  If you truly want to lose weight, you will stay away from foods that are high in these items.

Fried foods are usually high in fat content.  French fried potatoes are one of the worst foods that you can consume.  They are not only loaded with calories, carbohydrates and fat, but the have little, if any, nutritional value.  Many people eat fried potatoes because they are starchy and filling.  They would be better off with just about anything else.

While we need a certain amount of starchy foods to live, we should weigh carefully what we eat.  A baked potato is better for us than a fried potato.  This is a simple switch you can make when ordering out at a restaurant that can save you fat and calorie content.

Weigh you foods carefully before eating.  Learn to read labels and know what foods contain the most nutritional value before you consume them.  Find out the amount of calories in every day foods that you eat as well as drinks.

Years ago, there were little scales that you could use to weigh portions of food.  These are still used today and there are also other gadgets that are used to measure portions.  This can also be helpful if you want to lose weight and are unsure what size portion you need to eat.  Another way to do this is to simply cut your portions in half.

Weight food for calories, carbohydrates and fat against nutritional value is essential not only for a healthy balanced diet, but for weight loss as well.  If you are serious about losing weight and want to do so quickly, you will begin weighing foods right away for health and diet.
