Laxatives And Weight Loss

Dieter’s Tea:

This is one popular weight loss product that is available in the market.  It is available in different names such as Dieter’s Tea, Slim Tea etc., but they almost have the same ingredients in them.  These products do seem to be pretty attractive in terms of losing weight, but one should know about such products in detail before they even think of using them, as this might affect their health in an adverse way.

How Does Dieter’s Tea Works And Concept Of People?

The way that the Dieter’s Tea works is that they increase the bowel movement.  The concept with which the people use this product is that they think that this product just helps the toxins out of the body.  Slimming tea is made up of herbs and those herbs have laxatives in them as the active ingredients.  These ingredients are known as aloe, senna, rhubarb root, cascara, buckthorn and castor oil.  These ingredients are derived from plants and are used to increase the bowel movement and thus help to relieve the problem of constipation.  The people use the laxatives to clear out their bowel tract and overcome the problem of constipation, but on the other hand the people who take laxatives for weight loss, do not want the food contents to be absorbed through their bowels and thus manage excess calories that they ingest.

What Do Laxatives Do?

The laxatives increase the bowel activity, and with this feature, they do not allow the large intestine to absorb food where most of the food content gets absorbed.  Just to list a fact, the food does not get absorbed in the small intestines.  It is also known that if the laxatives are taken in large amounts for a greater period of time, they affect the absorption of the fats in the body.  This leads to greasy diarrhea and this in turn results in weight loss.

Side Effects Of Laxatives

Weight loss is guaranteed by overdosing on laxatives, but the major thing that must be seen is the side effects that it causes, which is that it causes permanent damage to the GI Tract and it also causes the weakening and softening of the bones, and this is known as osteomalacia.  Drinker’s tea has the most popularity since it tastes good and is less expensive than the rest of the medicines available in the market.  People who are suffering from the eating disorders such as bulimia and anorexia nervosa are the ones who use to achieve rapid weight loss and they use it because it works fast and produces watery stools that are loose in consistency.

How Can The Laxatives Affect Women?

Women are more prone to using these products and are the ones who are affected the most with the effects of these products.  It is not known that whether these products directly interfere with their menstrual cycle or fertility, but they must be on a look out to see whether they are having any increased menstrual cramps.  It is also mentioned that the women who are pregnant must not take any laxatives at all.  The herbalists discourage the use of senna and other laxatives in women who are trying to be pregnant.

Misleading Terms By Marketers

The marketers who are marketing these products are selling these products saying that these products are bowel cleaning products and are not being sold as by the word that they are laxatives.  There are some marketers who are also selling these products saying that these are low calorie, where these products do not contain any calories at all and they do not have any nutrients in it as well.  The only nutrient they could have is only when they would be sweetened.

Side Effects Of Laxatives

These products are mostly misused and the adverse effects that these products give are mostly when they are taken in more than recommended dose.  These side effects include nausea, stomach cramps, vomiting, diarrhea, fainting, rectal bleeding, electrolyte disorder and dehydration as well and this can lead to injury and death of the individual as well.  It is also noted that the excessive use of laxatives also cause severe constipation and pain for increased periods of time, which can result ultimately in surgery and removal of the large colon.

Summary:

It is recommended that the people not fall for such products, which are going to cause them harm and would result in health issues, but should rather focus on the methods where they will be able lose weight the natural way through diet and exercise, as well as use the weight loss products with the recommendation of a physician.
