How to avoid getting out of shape, once you are at your ideal weight after months of exercise and disciplined eating habits? People find that sometimes it is more difficult to maintain the weight than to attain it, and unless you plan wisely you can quickly fall back to your erratic eating habits, and pile on the kilos. A diet plan will ensure that you continue with the diet you were on while you were trying to lose weight, and not go back to the one you were following when you were fat. It is a reality that the lifestyle of an overweight person is different from that of a fit one, and so you can never go back to your old ways.  Eating wisely and being physically active is permanently your way of life.

You can eat four to five small meals, and snack on fruits, as you did while dieting. You may continue to take the stairs instead of the elevator, or find a remote parking space, to burn calories. You may have a helping of salads before meals, and avoid alcohol as much as possible.

If you have been following a regular exercise program, you shall not give it up, and you may visit the gym at least thrice a week. Exercise guarantees to convert your fat to muscles, and thereby increasing the rate of metabolism. Working out ensures that calories continue to be burned for hours after your stop exercising.
The many food items you abstained from during your diet can be eaten again, but you should know where to draw the line. Enjoying a piece of chocolate is different from binging on chocolates. Willpower plays a very important role when you try to avoid getting out of shape.  As you eat a piece of cheese cake and totally enjoy the process, you are not denying yourself anything, and it is a much better option that eating the whole cake.

When you are making efforts to avoid getting out of shape, attitude plays a very important role. It is either how you feel about the great figure, or how you feel about food. Eating is no more a comfort for you, feeling good about your self is more comforting.

In the course of following a healthy eating pattern people miss junk food lot of times, and are very unhappy about it. Indulging in the snack you love may make you feel good for about ten minutes, after which you regret deeply, particularly if you have worked hard to shed all the extra pounds. Instead of focusing on the moments of pleasure while taking a bite, you may concentrate on the reflection of your perfect figure in the mirror, or take your mind back to the admiring glances people gave you, and the snack may not look very appealing any more.

This does not mean that you eat like an ascetic for the rest of your life. You may once in a while splurge, without overdoing it. You can also eat the junk food you love every few days, in very small quantity though. Also you can include any of your preferred food items, preferably healthy, in your daily diet.

The method to avoid getting out of shape is to realize that dieting, exercising and losing weight is not a phase of your life, but a part of your life, and that you have to consciously follow the lifestyle until it comes naturally to you.
