Having trouble losing weight?

Most of the overweight people aspire to lose weight and look like fashion models, but once the process of dieting and exercise begins, they realize that they are having trouble losing weight. The body finds it difficult to adjust to a new pattern of eating or increased physical activity, and weight loss becomes slow. This however is disheartening for the individual and he may stop trying altogether.

The body could be having trouble losing weight due to one or more reasons. The body has to adjust to various changes in the body when one starts dieting, like lowered metabolism that occurs due to decreased calorie and protein intake, and hormonal imbalance. The energy level of the body decreases and there is a feeling of lightness. Less energy is used in digestion of food, or the Thermic Effect of food is less because you are eating less.

People who are following a strict exercise regime could also face trouble losing weight. As regards working out, when there is a repetition of the exercises, less and less energy is used, and fewer calories are burned due to increased fitness and coordination. Too much of rigorous exercise on the other hand causes carbohydrate to burn instead of fat, on account of which one feels exhausted, without any decrease in weight.

The sudden change in food habits could drastically affect the body, which could be an impediment to your getting into shape. Dieting reduces salts like sodium in the body due to which the body loses water. Going without food for hours together and starving lowers the metabolism. And long intervals without food cause blood sugar levels to fall, that produces intense cravings.

When a person is confronting trouble losing weight, he may undergo some psychological changes that have negative impact on his endeavors. Due to lack of proper results and motivation there could be a decline in his enthusiasm, which may affect his confidence and self esteem. He would blame his inability to exercise properly or lack of will to abstain from food, and may decide to give up altogether

Reducing 0.5 to 1 Kg per month assures that you lose about 10 kg year, and this is the rate you may want to maintain. A 10 kg reduction an year means that there is considerable change in your metabolism rate, cholesterol and blood pressure. And once you accomplish weight loss you have to take care not to lapse into your old ways and pile on the kilos. Balanced diet and physical activities may be continued for perpetuating the effect.

Each person’s body reacts in a different way to a weight loss program, based on the quality of his food and lifestyle, and so when one is having trouble losing weight there must be a different approach to each one. Knowledge of our body and its functioning, an efficient trainer and good diet plan will help in tackling this problem to a certain extent and fetching results.
