Fat in fish
We tend to worry a little too much about fats that we do not take in enough. Certain types of fats are bad for you and should be consumed in limited quantities, but other fats such as olive oil and the Omega-3 fatty acids found in many types of fish are good for you. The fat in olive oil is good for the heart and the fats in fish are good for many areas of the body including the brain.
Taking in a small amount of omega-3 fatty acids are many. Studies show that when overweight people supplemented their diets with Omega-3, a fat naturally found in fish they lost more weight when they included moderate aerobic exercise than those who exercised without taking Omega-3.
It is sad but true that many people do not like fish, regardless of the healthy fat that can be found in many sea foods. Religious strictures may prevent a person from eating fish. This should not cause a person who wants to start brining fish oil into their diet for its many health benefits. Many all natural supplements are made that contain Omega-3. And of course, the Omega-3 fatty acids that occur naturally in fish help promote mental health.
The latter seems strange, but a deficiency of fish fats and other nutrients such as Vitamin B-12 can lead to conditions like depression. Bringing these nutrients back up to the appropriate levels will alleviate the symptoms and if the cause was simply malnutrition bring the person out of his or her depression.
If you worry about how much fish fat you should include in your diet, fish are not something you need to add at every meal. Eating fish as the main course one or two times a week will give the bodies the fats it needs to maintain heart health and perform its wonders on the brain. If you instead go for the option of taking an Omega-3 supplement instead of getting fish fat directly from its source, the best results are obtained by following the directions on the label as they are written.
Well, fish may not exactly be the brain food that we have been led to believe it is, but taking in a small amount of the fish fats known as the Omega-3 fatty acids can improve our brain function, heart health, and may be included as part of an aerobic exercise program to help us lose weight. Sadly, many of the other tastier types of seafood like crab or lobster do not contain these acids, but at least fish is easier to buy and considerably less expensive. Or if you despise fish altogether and what to get the same benefits, head to nutrition store and buy one of the many supplements that contains the oil. Once you do that, you can spend the time pondering why fish have any fat at all as they spend all of their time swimming in the water.
