Protein in chicken

The question of which type of protein you should eat is a common one when you begin to exercise to build muscles. Even if you do not intend to build muscles, most people are interested in this question. Chicken and protein are good sources for this necessary nutrient, but they are not the only ones available.

However, they can easily be incorporated into your diet to make sure that your body has the varied sources of proteins it needs for proper function. Just make sure that chicken and eggs are not the only source of protein. If at this point you are wondering which one of the pair came first, I am afraid I cannot help you and that is a question better left to theologians and philosophers rather than a writer.

Although eggs are a good source of protein from chicken, they also are very high in fat and cholesterol. Most of the problem with the high cholesterol of the egg can be avoided by not eating the yolk. A whole egg may have six grams of protein, but just eating the white itself provides you with four grams of protein. If you are worried about the two grams of protein you miss from not eating an egg, do not be. Most people can make up this lack of protein from many other sources of their diet.

If you intend to make eggs a daily part of your diet, whole eggs are not required and two egg whites a day is probably more than enough for the person looking to gain muscle mass. It is not wrong to eat an occasional yolk because this is where most of the nutrients are, but eating the whole egg frequently is very fattening and can shoot up your cholesterol numbers. (And whether or not we want it, most of the times our doctors tell us not to do this.)

Now when you eat chicken, which is also an excellent source of protein, the health conscious person may want to shy away from the dark meat areas, which tend to be the thighs, wings, and drumsticks. (This may be difficult on game day where chicken wings are an essential ingredient if a team you support has made it to the playoffs.) It is not that the white meat from the breast area of the chicken is superior, but that it tends to be lower in fat and cholesterol.

Adding chicken and eggs as source of protein is good for you and adds variety to your diet, but the proteins you take in should come from a variety of sources. This includes other meats and many vegetables also. Oh, and if you plan on eating more chicken, it is healthiest to have it baked. Yes, fried chicken tastes better but it is adding a lot of unnecessary fat to the meat. Oh and when you eat the meal does not really matter, although many people consider eggs to be a food to eat only at breakfast.
