Protein combinations
A number of vegan and vegetarian web sties contain information about the necessary plant combinations in order to get the necessary proteins that your body needs. There are vegetables that may be rich in protein, but not every vegetable contains enough protein on its own.
Cutting back on meat is a good thing for most people if they are not a vegan, especially if it is coupled with an increase of healthy foods in your diet. Many people are not interest in eliminated meat from their diet altogether, but if you do, it is essential do know the combinations of foods that will make the proteins in your body. Keep in mind that this information is for adults and teenagers only. Children do require a small percentage of animal fats for proper development, although this may be obtained from meat and dairy.
And the last sentence of the last paragraph brings up a point, if you merely wish to stop consuming meat, you can still get all the proteins your body needs from milk and other dairy products. If you want to become a total vegan, however, even getting these sources from milk and dairy is out, so it is time to find the combinations of foods that will give you the proteins that you need for your body to function properly.
Perhaps the best known combination of proteins is a meal that is popular in Spain and in many Latin American countries. (It is gaining some popularity in the United States, but it will forever fall behind the hamburger as the national dish.) Beans and rice is not the only combination that allows someone who has decided to give up meat for dietary, health, religious or ethical combinations. It is probably just the best well known. Other examples are grains, beans, and legumes; tortillas and beans; tofu and sesame seeds; and chick peas and hummus.
This may not sound appealing to me, but for the truly dedicated who need more flavor in their diet, flavoring can easily be added to tofu, or you can shop specialized health food stores that will allow you to add more variety into your diet than the above list might suggest. Then again, if you are not a total vegan, you can add the option of pasta and cheese to make sure the body has all the amino acids it needs to make protein.
The protein combinations are not complicated or difficult, but if you do not get enough there can be health problems down the road. For most people, especially in the West, they probably already get more than enough protein in their diet already and the concern should not be about getting enough protein, but rather switching over to healthier eating habits. Now you need to do is how to do it, go out and put the advice in this article into practice. You can also completely ignore it, but you do so at risk to your own health.
