Protein in steak
While steak is far from being nature's perfect food, for many of us it is an occasional and quite delicious indulgence. Even if we are lucky to be able to afford to eat steak every day we would soon get tired of it if we did not supplement the diet with foods and vary what we eat for our meals. Not surprisingly because it is beef, steak is an excellent source of protein.
Many of associate steak and other red meats with something body builders desire to eat in bulk. Of course, eggs are on this list too, for those of us who remember (or in some cases wish we could forget0 the Rocky movies starring Sylvester Stallone.
As we all know cow come from beef and the protein in steak is one of the best types available to be easily processed by our bodies. We can get the same benefits without eating steak everyday, as ground beef contains many of the same nutrients without the high price tag. We may not be able to order our hamburgers medium rare like we can with steaks, at least not from fast food restaurants, but if our concern is to build muscle mass, there is not that much difference between eating steak and eating hamburgers as far as the type of protein and their protein content is concerned.
Now of course although the protein in steak and hamburgers may be the same, there is just something to be said for sitting down with a steak knife and eating a steak that came fresh from the grill that cannot be said for a hamburger, regardless of how well prepared the hamburger is. But the main difference will be the fat content, not the protein content. Because a steak cut can come from many different parts of the cow, it is more easily to control fat content than it is in a hamburger, where the meat from many different parts of a cow is ground up and then sold for consumption. True, leaner ground beef types are available for the savvy consumer who will look at the labels, but it is easier to know which cuts have the least or the most fat.
If your concern is just eating protein and not too much with fat, it will not matter whether you get your protein from steak or hamburger, but if your want to keep an eye on your fat intake, a steak might be a better choice, as strange as choosing steak to avoid an overly fatty meal may seem. Then again, a steak should be an indulgence and if you need to keep your eye on fats and not proteins, other food choices can serve your needs much better. All this talk has probably made you hungry though; why not go out for a healthy snack unless of course, it is dinner time, in which case, you should probably eat a full meal. Keep your eye toward good nutrition if you go for the meal, though.
