Obesity Height Link
Obesity is on the rise. And people generally tend to think that if their body-mass index is at the right point, they need not worry about being obese. The body mass index is a ratio of involving the height and corresponding ideal weight of a person. The index claims that people who have an ideal body mass index are not obese. But recent researches claim different and say that the body mass index misleads people totally! Of course there is no denial that is you are obese the body mass index will only confirm that. However, if you are only a bit overweight, the body mass index does not bother about the figure of obesity. Even if you were a bit of overweight or just normal, the body mass index would cause worries to you saying that you actually are obese.
With such a demoralizing effect the body mass index is continued being used. There are two simple reasons for this. Point one is of course that it is very easy to handle. To state whether you are overweight or not, all that a person has to do is to take your height and corresponding weight and look in to the chart of ideal figures to give you the estimate of whether you are overweight or underweight and by how much. The second reason is eyewash. This means that the body mass index causes so much panic for people it declares overweight that slimming programs have hit the market hard and that too by people who are not professionals to say the least.
Where does the body mass index basically go wrong? Say you regularly go to the gym and tone up your muscles. You end up having great muscles and acquire a bit of weight. However, your weight gain is only due to the increase in muscles and not because of fat. Now try comparing your weight and height with the body mass index. In all probability it would say that you are obese even though your extra weight is all due to muscles and not fat! The main flaw of the body mass index is that instead of fat it accounts the height with body weight and yields ridiculous results. Even if you work out regularly at the gym for hours daily, the body mass index would still call you obese and finally you would give up. However, if you really are obese, note well that the exercises that gyms offer mostly burn down sugar and not fat, thus keeping you obese so that you continue paying for the slimming programs and they keep earning the money. Of course all slimming centers are not like this and there are a few heart-warming exceptions that aim at burning your fat and not sugar. So, even if you gain a good set of muscles, you are sure to lose fat and stop being obese. And then following the set routine, you can just go on to dump and ridicule the results of the body mass index.
