Does BodyMedia Really Work?

I have paid a lot of money for machines, resistance bands, and other things that I thought would help me to lose weight. Videos have gotten a lot cheaper. P90X remains expensive. But I see workout videos such as TaeBo in grocery stores selling for about $10.
Obviously, you have to do the work. Just watching a video doesn’t help you to lose weight. You have to get down in the trenches and follow it. You have to make the effort to make the move into a healthy lifestyle full of diet and exercise. But videos give you direction. So what is BodyMedia that makes it so special? Why do you have to pay $250 instead of $10?
How Does BodyMedia Work
BodyMedia is not actually a workout plan or a diet plan. It doesn’t give you any direction. The only thing that BodyMedia does is track your calorie burning potential. It fits around your arm, and it tracks the number of calories you consume and the number of calories that you burn throughout the day. Yes, you could get a free App on your smart phone. But you have to plug in the numbers! How inconvenient!
But let’s just say you do it right. BodyMedia gives you a realistic and undeniable view of your habits. It tells you what you are eating, if you are exercising enough, etc. And if you do it as you should, you can make the necessary life changes to lose weight.
If you check the numbers, you can tell yourself today I’m going to eat an apple instead of ordering a bag of fries, because today I’ve already eaten 1000mg and it’s only lunch time. But BodyMedia won’t do the work for you.
What BodyMedia Does Not Do
BodyMedia does not increase metabolism or suppress appetite. It does not change the way that you exercise or the effectiveness of your workouts. You have to make the changes all on your own. In fact, it does not tell you what to or what not to eat or which exercise moves will help you the most. It just gives you the numbers, plain and simple.
Conclusion
If BodyMedia were selling for $5 on eBay, I’d say go for it. Tracking your calories is great, and if BodyMedia makes it easier for you to do just that, then good for you. But I have never recommended using a diet pill or other weight loss product that costs you more than $100! I hesitate to recommend $100 products. For as little as it actually does, BodyMedia is not worth $250.
