Weight cycling

The process referred to as weight cycling involves a recurrent loss and regain of body weight. It happens usually to people who undertake regulatory diets to case weight loss. A normal cycle includes a loss and subsequent regaining of approximately 5-10 lbs.

Effects of a weight cycling

It has still not been clearly established if weight cycles cause adverse effects to individual’s health. Some experts have proposed that there exists a correlation between weight cycling and high blood pressure, high cholesterol and gallbladder disease.

There is one particular study which states that women who decide to go through weight cycles are liable to gain more weight over a period of time than women who do weight cycle. The uncontrollable consumption of food also referred to as binge eating is attributed to those who have undergone weight cycling.

The same research also indicated that weight cycling can lead to the incapacity to regulate one’s body weight through exercise.

A person’s mental well-being is also said to be affected by weight cycling which is known to cause severe concern with one’s weight leading to depression.

Possibility of regaining more weight after weight cycle

Research does not provide credible evidence of increase in fat tissue after a weight cycle. A reduction in muscle is not considered as a consequence either. Most people regain just the amount of weight which they had lost during the time of their regulated diet.

There is also the prevalent concern regarding the idea that weight cycling results in the accumulation if fat around the stomach. It becomes all the more serious considering that such people are more liable to develop type 2 diabetes. However, there is no concrete evidence to indicate that an individual put on more fat around the stomach after a weight cycle.

Weight cycle as an alternative to remaining obese

Whether or not weight cycle is a better alternative to remaining obese is difficult to determine as it has not yet been clearly ascertained by researchers as to whether

Weight cycle results in medical complications

In general, losing weight in case of obesity is considered to have positive implications. Obesity is associated with numerous health-related problems such as: high blood pressure, heart disease, gallbladder disease, heart stroke, diabetes, arthritis, some types of cancer as well as sleep apnea which cause breathing to stop during sleep.

Final comments

Scientists still need to delve deeper and conduct more research about weight cycling in order to determine if it actually causes adverse physical and mental conditions. Losing weight requires the strong will to bring about changes that will be followed during one’s entire life.

Nutritional studies provide sufficient knowledge for those looking to follow healthy diets. It basically involves consumption of high-fiber fruits such as fruits like oranges, kiwifruit, strawberries, tomatoes and grapes and reducing the intake of foods that have a high fat concentration of Trans fat. Physical exercises also help to maintain one’s health.
