FITT Techniques

When we begin physical training for a sport or perhaps simply to increase our own level of fitness we tend to work only on a certain group of muscles or single area of fitness.   While getting some exercise in any form is not incorrect, the best results can be achieved by trying to work our whole program.   A series of techniques have been developed to serve this goal known as FITT.   FITT is an acronym that stands for Functional Integrated Training Techniques.

Unfortunately, people do not agree on which exercises a full FITT technique should include and what each features depends on the person who is trying to sell it, however, because FITT techniques emphasize overall health rather than just working a simple muscle group, people know what type of exercises should be in a program that uses FITT techniques.

A good program that uses FITT techniques should focus on several areas.  These are flexibility, muscle tone, hearth health, and paying attention to diet or exercise.  The goal of these program is to give a person good overall health.  The difference between these and standard programs it that most fitness program focus on one area.   If you work only on muscle tone for example, you are not getting the benefits of cardiovascular exercises, and ignoring flexibility only serves to increase the chances of an athlete suffering an injury.

Of course, not everyone needs a full-fledged workout that uses the FITT techniques, some exercises such as walking or swimming will give many of the same benefits as a simple FITT technique, but the question is whether or not these techniques will work for the individual.

Because most programs that use the FITT techniques are offered by a gym, people who choose to incorporate them into their weight loss program will find well-trained instructors who can help set them on the right path and make recommendations to improve their workouts or potential problem areas.

As it is a fairly new idea, the opinions one what makes a successful program of FITT techniques and what does not vary widely, but the exercises done do not matter as much as that they look at all areas of your health.  Remember though that the exercises are only one part of it.  There is only so much that an instructor can do, regardless of how good they are.   Be sure to do all the standard other things that make are essential to good health like eat a well balanced diet, get plenty of rest, and make sure you get enough sleep.

But sticking with an exercise programs that uses FITT techniques will help keep you healthier for a longer period of time throughout your life and of course, help prevent many conditions that are associated with the deterioration that occurs naturally as we age.   Even better, what exactly constitutes a program using FITT techniques will likely become clearer as the idea evolves.   Well, at least it will help you lose weight and burn calories if nothing else.
