Power of hypnosis to lose weight

So, you have decided to use the powers of hypnosis to lose weight.  Before going too far, it might be a good idea to know exactly what you're getting into.    Hypnosis can be a powerful therapeutic tool, but may therapist must be trained in its use before being allowed to practice on people.  Perhaps describing hypnosis briefly would allow us to know exactly what to expect from hypnosis. Dictionary.com defines hypnosis as an artificially induced trance state resembling sleep, characterized by susceptibility to suggestion.

So we can see from Dictionary.com that the power of using hypnosis as a weight loss tool is that it enable the hypnotist to place suggestions in our mind that make us eat less and exercise more.   The idea itself may seem far fetched, but hypnosis has been used by psychiatrists for many years, although some practices like finding repressed memories are no longer recommended.  (Yes, a person performing hypnosis has the power to plant false memories in a person.)

But the above sentence does not describe how the power of hypnosis works as a weight loss tool, or at least it does not describe it well.   The people who eat only enough to maintain their weight seem to do so without any conscious effort.  At least one theory on how hypnosis works suggests that it grants access to the subconscious and conscious mind at the same time.  In this state, the hypnotist can place suggestions that they want the person under hypnosis to follow.

While the power of hypnosis may not be as great as that suggested on old time radio serials like The Shadow, it can be used to help a person who decides to undergo it change his habits and  how he behaves towards food.  In effect, the power of hypnosis as a weight loss therapy is that it remove a subconscious block that we may or may not be aware of and replaces it with a new suggestion for us to follow.

The power of hypnosis as a weight loss tool can be great, but it will not work for everyone and keep in mind that all it does when it works is plant a suggestion.  It is up to the person to follow it or ignore it as they wish, but it can make the process far much easier by reducing the appetite of the patient and binge eating behaviors.    Regardless of how many sessions you go through with the therapist, it can do nothing if you do not actually eat less and get out and exercise more.   Of course, the whole point is to alter your desires to do the above, otherwise undergoing hypnotherapy would simply be an expensive waste of money.  And if it doesn't work, perhaps you are in the 5% of people who simply cannot be hypnotized.  If that is the case, the power of hypnosis will do nothing for you and you.
