Hypnotherapy to Lose Weight

A lot of ideas have been put forth to help people lose weight.  Some of these are ridiculous and merely a waste of money and other of them work.  Others such as hypnotherapy are controversial but seem to produce results in most of the patients who try this to lose weight.

The idea behind using hypnotherapy to lose weight is not anything the patient does directly but rather to change the behavior of the patient when he enters into a hypnosis state.    Most people who are overweight simply eat more than they need or in some cases eat to relieve boredom.    The theory is that under a state of hypnosis, the therapist can change the patient’s relationship with food.

Well, it is not as strange as it may seem.  Most of us struggle to lose weight and go on a dieting on-again off-again cycle that only results in even more weight being gained because the body stores even more fat after the starvation cycle.   The goal of hypnotherapy to lose weight is to make it easy for the person to change his or her habits so that eating a sensible amount of food rather than binging becomes second nature to the patient.

Naturally, using hypnotherapy to lose weight is not without some effort.  Hypnosis by itself will not change anyones behavior or cause the body to burn fat more efficiently, but using hypnotherapy to lose weight will give you that little push and clear many unconscious obstacles that cause you to eat too much or exercise too infrequently.

Remember that if you choose to use hypnotherapy to lose weight that it does not work for everybody.   While most people can be put into a state of hypnosis, if they are willing, a small percentage of the population cannot and will gain no benefit from undergoing this type of treatment.  Instead of using hypnotherapy to lose weight, it may be better to resort to other methods.

But if  you cannot use hypnotherapy to lose weight, the underlying goal of changing your behavior will work.  It will be a little more difficult and take more will power than it would had you successfully undergone hypnosis therapy, but people who are successful will be just as pleased with the results.  For the people that do use hypnosis therapy to lose weight successful, they may want to look into the same treatment if they engage in other unhealthy habits such as nicotine consumption.  Be sure to check with the appropriate state agency as hypnotherapists much be licensed whether they are helping you to loose weight or even more controversial New Age ideas like past life regression.

Make sure that the therapist is planting suggestions only, not trying to give new memories. Of coursing, if you're using hypnotherapy to lose weight, there should be no problem with implanted false memories, and the therapist may just give you that extra motivation you need to help you achieve your over all weight loss and fitness goals.
