Get Six Pack Abs

Most men want six pack abs, but what most men are not sure of how is how to achieve this lofty and sometimes inaccessible goal. Changes in diet, exercise, and habits are necessary to obtain the goal of getting a washboard stomach, but if you were not willing to make the changes necessary or at least curious about what you need to do to actually get six pack abs, you would not be reading this particular article.

If you have come in with this with the idea that you will loose fat specifically from your pot belly, I must be the bearer of bad news, even though I personally hate this cliché. You can not spot-target areas you want to lose fat from, but that does not make it impossible to get six pack abs, it just makes it take a little longer.

Because getting six pack abs involves working the muscles in the muscle group, we must be aware of what we need to do to improve muscle tone. Yes, exercises like crunches are a part of this, but they are not part of the whole story. You must eat enough protein and carbohydrates, drink plenty of water and give your body time to rest between intense workout sessions.

Losing fat will improve muscle tone, but other than liposuction you cannot remove fat cells or from a specific area, however, doing exercises like crunches, leg lifts and a crunch that looks weird where you put your body in a V-shape will cause the muscles around the stomach to firm up and start you on your way to that six pack abs look. Gyms will often have exercise equipment that can work the muscles a little more effectively than the exercises mentioned above, but the machines are not necessary to get the six pack abs look. (They may not hurt if you really want to do them. Just beware of the many crunch machines sold on late night television. Some of these work and others do not.)

Do not expect to get six-pack abs overnight. The exercises must be performed for months to see results and if you do not increase your metabolism so that you burn more fat, you may keep that potbelly which is the exact opposite of the six-packs ab look you are trying to get. In order to burn more fat, engaging in weight training two or three times a week depending on the type of workout you are going for, will cause the body to burn more fat and hopefully some of it will come from the stomach, although this cannot be guaranteed.

If you want to get six pack abs, the best bet is sticking with a fitness program for a long period of time and cutting back on your caloric intake, although it is okay to slightly increase your consumption of meet on a weight training diet. As long as you are doing things correctly, the only additional things you need to get six pack abs are patience and the ability to stick with your program.
